COOL and windy conditions made for tough racing for Eureka Cycling Club\u2019s outing on the Coghill\u2019s Creek circuit on Sunday.<\/p>\n

The second scratch group dominated the 63-kilometre handicap race with smart tactics, riding through the field and had the race lead with over eight kilometres remaining.<\/p>\n

Greg Ley attempted a late breakaway, however the headwind proved too strong and a sprint finish decided the race.<\/p>\n

Shane Clarke was desperately unlucky when he surged clear and had what looked to be a race winning gap – only for his chain to tangle up.<\/p>\n

This opened the door for Darryn Reed and Matt Ayres to have a battle to the line, with Ayres taking the win and Fastest Time.<\/p>\n

Race Results – 1st – Matthew Ayres (1 min), 2nd – Darryn Reed (1 min), 3rd – Wayne Klauss (1 min), 4th – Tony Mirabella (1 min), 5th – Greg Ley (1 min). Fastest time – Matthew Ayres in 1h 35m 30s, ave. 39.2kph.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
