THIS month\u2019s Share the Dignity drive, collecting sanitary products for women in need, was less successful than usual due to toiletry hoarding in supermarkets.<\/p>\n

But local area Share the Dignity \u201cqueen,\u201d Barbara Merrifield wants to remind people that they can still give packets of pads and tampons they won\u2019t use to those who are more vulnerable than ever, or in isolation.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople should be thinking of the less fortunate. They are forgetting that there\u2019s still homeless people. It\u2019s a sad situation. There\u2019s a bigger and greater need for help now than previously,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m still here to help my neighbours and people I know that are struggling, and if they need something you\u2019ve got, you share. That\u2019s the Australian thing to do.\u201d<\/p>\n

To start, Ms Merrifield said people could contact their local neighbourhood houses and other places the public go for crisis assistance, to offer them sanitary supplies.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe usually look after Cafs, WRISC, Centacare, BADAC, Eureka Mums, a few different Salvos in Ballarat, Yuille Park has a young mothers\u2019 group, the YMCA…<\/p>\n

\u201cShare the Dignity says when this is over, we\u2019ll deliver to charities again, but how long\u2019s that going to take? What\u2019s going to happen to these people in the meantime?\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
