DESPITE the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Golden Plains Shire is making sure that elderly and vulnerable residents are cared for.<\/p>\n
Services such as Meals on Wheels, essential transport and support attending medical appointments and shopping for essential items will be continuing.<\/p>\n
The Shire\u2019s domestic assistance program will be ongoing for residents with respiratory or chronic health issues who cannot rely on external support from family or friends.<\/p>\n
Mayor Cr Owen Sharkey said council will ensure important services are available for residents who need them.<\/p>\n
\u201cSelf-isolation and social distancing can be very challenging for many of our aged and disabled residents and we can all make a difference in the lives of our family, friends and neighbours during this difficult time,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Due to social distancing, the Shire\u2019s Active Ageing & Disability team are unable to visit residents in person, however, to combat the effects of isolation, clients are being checked in with over the phone.<\/p>\n
The team will partake in activities that they previously would have done in person, such as helping with a crossword or discussing a TV program.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s really heartening to see the people of Golden Plains Shire coming together to help and support each other, particularly our aged and vulnerable members of the community who need us the most.\u201d Said Cr Owen Sharkey.<\/p>\n
Smythesdale IGA is also working with council to ensure essential items such as toilet paper, sugar and pasta have been put aside in relief packs, that will be delivered to community members in need.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
