AS a friendly and active social group, it\u2019s been difficult under recent coronavirus restrictions for Ballarat Bushwalking and Outdoor Club to get out and do what they enjoy.<\/p>\n
With many members over fifty, president Wendy Ross said some have been walking individually, or in pairs around their neighbourhood, but they\u2019ve missed getting together in their usual way.<\/p>\n
Now restrictions are loosening, the group\u2019s preparing for some local walks together.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have to reduce them to no more than 10 people, and that will be the case for the next three weeks or so. Then hopefully we will be allowed to increase to 20 people, which will allow us to function much better as a club,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe normally walk every Tuesday, some Wednesdays and most weekends, and hope to get back to monthly meetings come July. We have a really vibrant club with a full calendar.\u201d<\/p>\n
Upcoming local walks may include Mount Buninyong, Union Jack Reserve, and the The Gong via the Yarrowee Trail. Eventually they\u2019ll be extended to Creswick and beyond.<\/p>\n
\u201cRestrictions have been hard, but we\u2019d rather do this and stay safe,\u201d Ms Ross said.<\/p>\n
\u201cMost of us are heading into that senior age bracket, so we\u2019re aware of looking out for each other, which we will continue to do.\u201d<\/p>\n
Tuesday walks can attract between 40 and 50 people, but typically weekends have a little over 20 participants.<\/p>\n
