URQUHART Park Primary School\u2019s name is changing to Newington Primary School, approved by the State government last week.<\/p>\n
Principal Janet Hillgrove said the school community is excited, making the shift to move forward into the future with a better sense of identity.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur main goal is to connect with our fabulous community, and that\u2019s one of the driving forces for this change,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re an International Baccalaureate World School. IB World Schools are all about recognising culture and working with communities, so it\u2019s important for us that we are connected with our immediate community.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve been really lucky that we\u2019ve got such a forward-thinking school council that does a fantastic job, so together we\u2019ve been really supportive of the name change.\u201d<\/p>\n
Belinda Collihole, school council president said students, parents and staff are looking forward to \u201cstepping into a new space of learning.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have our IB Primary Years Program, and we\u2019re embracing a growth mindset,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are united in moving forward while striving to inspire, enquire and grow. That\u2019s our vision.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mrs Hillgrove is mindful of Urquhart Park\u2019s proud history, and that people embrace change in different ways.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe acknowledge that and it\u2019s really important, but this is about the future,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
In 1982, Urquhart Street Primary School moved to the Newington site on Inkerman Street, keeping the Urquhart and adding the park element, due to its new location next to Victoria Park.<\/p>\n
