{"id":69596,"date":"2020-07-02T04:44:29","date_gmt":"2020-07-01T18:44:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=69596"},"modified":"2020-06-30T19:33:37","modified_gmt":"2020-06-30T09:33:37","slug":"kids-gain-golf-skills-on-inverleigh-green","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/sport\/kids-gain-golf-skills-on-inverleigh-green\/","title":{"rendered":"Kids gain golf skills on Inverleigh green"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A FREE golf clinic for children and teens will run this Saturday, 4 July at Inverleigh Golf Club, 9am to 11am.<\/p>\n<p>Facilitated by golf pro, Tybin Lawson, and assisted by club members, budding golfers will learn the basics of putting, chipping, full shots and where appropriate, some will work up to drivers.<\/p>\n<p>Dianne Morgan, Inverleigh Golf Club secretary said it\u2019s a chance to get a taste for the sport and develop a swing, although the real aim of the workshop lies elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s about having fun, not getting highly technical, just getting the basics, getting them interested, confident and connecting. We have a sausage sizzle afterwards,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe future of our club is in the juniors and we want to get them active.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The session will be the second of a series, initially postponed during the March outbreak of COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been a long break. We\u2019re grateful to the Victorian Golf Foundation for a grant which has allowed us to run the clinics, pay for an instructor, and offer kids the chance to borrow clubs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHopefully we can nurture them along after these two clinics, if they\u2019re keen to continue,\u201d Ms Morgan said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re a friendly country club, welcoming, and want to continue on with a par three weekly effort where members of the club can mentor them along.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Thirteen children attended last Saturday\u2019s first event and the club hopes to see more this weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Bring a jacket as IGC plays in wet weather, unless extreme.
