{"id":69602,"date":"2020-07-06T04:55:38","date_gmt":"2020-07-05T18:55:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=69602"},"modified":"2020-07-01T01:36:04","modified_gmt":"2020-06-30T15:36:04","slug":"mens-shed-shovelers-prep-site-for-slab","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/mens-shed-shovelers-prep-site-for-slab\/","title":{"rendered":"Men\u2019s Shed shovelers prep site for slab"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>RECENT excavation and trench digging means a slab can soon be poured at the Linton and District Men\u2019s Shed\u2019s new location behind the CFA.<\/p>\n<p>President, Michael Hough said the last five weeks have seen the community group\u2019s members band together, while still social distancing, to start works on their facility.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe blokes have been coming up all day Thursday and Saturday, I\u2019ve been cooking sausages, we\u2019ve been having cups of tea, my daughter\u2019s made bickies, and we\u2019ve worked through a really tough job,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHalf a dozen blokes have been doing the bulk of the work, and most of them are in their mid to late 60s, so it\u2019s impressive, all done with the shovel by hand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe weather hasn\u2019t always been kind, we\u2019ve had lots of mud, but it\u2019s all been fun. Work and social.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now ready for Shire approval, the slab will be poured soon after the team receives the okay.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll get some tradies to do that properly, and we\u2019ll work there as labourers,\u201d Mr Hough said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/still-movement-at-lintons-mens-shed\/\">Respectful of COVID-19 restrictions, it\u2019s been hard for the Men\u2019s Shed to engage in the activities they normally enjoy<\/a>, so they\u2019ve relished the opportunity to spread out and be proactive at the new base.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s made it easy to get together and do something, which we couldn\u2019t have done if we had to stay in our current shed, which is a two-car garage only big enough for two people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/new-mens-shed-for-linton\/\">We\u2019re all looking forward to getting the new building up<\/a> because we\u2019ll be able to have a conversation without someone starting up a wood saw and drowning everything out,\u201d Mr Hough laughed.<\/p>\n<p>Bunnings has been \u201cgenerous,\u201d providing bracing, and a couple of layers worth of gravel has been sourced from the Sago Hill pit.<\/p>\n<p>The new Shed\u2019s yard will flow into the Linton Community Garden, also progressing through the cold weather.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll get veggies and Winter stuff planted, ready for the next season.
