{"id":70121,"date":"2020-07-30T04:55:44","date_gmt":"2020-07-29T18:55:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=70121"},"modified":"2020-07-30T08:36:33","modified_gmt":"2020-07-29T22:36:33","slug":"state-funds-to-support-womens-start-ups","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/state-funds-to-support-womens-start-ups\/","title":{"rendered":"State funds to support women\u2019s start-ups"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BALLARAT Regional Multicultural Council\u2019s women\u2019s business incubator has received a funding boost from the State government of thirty-two thousand, five hundred dollars.<\/p>\n<p>Based upstairs at the Ballarat Welcome Centre on Barkly Street, the space has been established to support, promote and educate enterprising women from migrant and refugee backgrounds, and those over 50 who are at risk of underemployment.<\/p>\n<p>Textile brand, A TUK has already settled in as its business in residence, and BRMC executive officer, Ann Foley said more facilities are to come, with meeting, training, office, kitchen and display areas in progress.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBRMC are really pleased to support this. We acknowledge that these businesswomen offer huge cultural capital, international business experience, they\u2019re resilient and we\u2019re optimistic about them as viable entrepreneurs,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Nyibol Deng is one of A TUK\u2019s owner-operators. She said it has gone from strength to strength since she was involved with Stepping Stones, a business program providing entrepreneurial support to the Central Highlands and Grampians regions\u2019 intercultural women.<\/p>\n<p>Developing a business mindset within the educational experience, facilitated by BRMC, her brand found its new home at the Welcome Centre and is currently employing four or five women.<\/p>\n<p>This week\u2019s goal has been to sew hundreds of face masks to assist the city\u2019s COVID safety, under the mentorship of two experienced seamstresses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe space is fantastic. It\u2019s a dream come true to have a space like this which the community can use, and where we can do the things we love to do,\u201d Ms Deng said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWithout BRMC, it wouldn\u2019t be possible to have a community space like this, I\u2019d just do it at home.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s amazing, and it\u2019s come right on time, for us to be able to sew masks and support people in the community who are going to wear them in this town.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Visiting A TUK recently, Member for Buninyong, Michaela Settle loved the vibrant, patterned material sewers were working with.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m looking forward to seeing these wonderful colours across Ballarat,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRefugee, migrant and multicultural communities have so much to offer the region. Funding the fit-out of the women\u2019s business incubator is a way that the Victorian government can help kick-start local businesses from these communities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe women\u2019s incubator will be a vibrant hub where local businesses can grow and succeed.
