{"id":70359,"date":"2020-08-07T04:55:55","date_gmt":"2020-08-06T18:55:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=70359"},"modified":"2020-08-06T18:33:09","modified_gmt":"2020-08-06T08:33:09","slug":"library-tailors-book-bundles-for-home-borrowers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/library-tailors-book-bundles-for-home-borrowers\/","title":{"rendered":"Library tailors book bundles for home borrowers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BALLARAT Libraries have had to be creative in the way they offer some of their most basic services during the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>While people can only visit for one hour, and 20 can be in the building at once, Ballarat Library team leader, Julie Stevens said she\u2019s seen a reluctance amongst borrowers, not comfortable to come into the CBD, Wendouree and Sebastopol centres.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know that reading is so important for health and wellbeing, a wonderful relaxation tool, it contributes to lifelong learning and has so many wonderful benefits,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want people to still access our resources, so we put our minds to thinking about how we can offer services in a different way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Book Tailor is one of these alternatives, inviting child and adult members to give library staff the opportunity to choose their borrowing bundles for them, whether they\u2019re interested in books, talking books, magazines or DVDs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s simply a matter of calling, or completing a form on our website and filling it in,\u201d Ms Stevens said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt asks how many items you\u2019d like, and what type, what you like and don\u2019t like, and we choose on your behalf.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce we have the stack ready for them, within 48 hours, we let people know that they\u2019re ready and they can collect them at any of the branches.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With each resource hand selected by the library staff, Ms Stevens said her team enjoys doing it and they\u2019re \u201cvery good at it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s something we do ordinarily anyway, but it\u2019s one of the things we all love about our jobs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome people love the choices we make on their behalf when they\u2019re looking for a surprise. Often we choose things that are slightly outside their comfort zone that might push them a little bit,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou often get the best reading experiences when it\u2019s something you might not have otherwise picked up.
