{"id":70410,"date":"2020-08-11T04:57:27","date_gmt":"2020-08-10T18:57:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=70410"},"modified":"2020-08-09T00:59:33","modified_gmt":"2020-08-08T14:59:33","slug":"strong-bonds-at-shires-little-pony-club","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/sport\/strong-bonds-at-shires-little-pony-club\/","title":{"rendered":"Strong bonds at Shire\u2019s little Pony Club"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WITH eleven members in its group, Rokewood Pony Club is a small community.<\/p>\n<p>But with riders between the ages of nine and 17, secretary Nadine Gass said it\u2019s an inclusive space for young people of all abilities and experiences to bond, with their horses in tow.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe provide support and riding instruction to children in a safe environment, and we cater for everybody,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey bring their own horses along, have three or four lessons and work on flat riding, show jumping, cross country, games, grid and theory.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey work through certificates and get a reward for them to show that they\u2019ve completed theoretical or practical demonstrations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Although not a big group, Ms Gass said the social side of her club is one of its strengths.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_70412\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-70412\" style=\"width: 225px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-70412\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2020\/08\/RPC1-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2020\/08\/RPC1-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2020\/08\/RPC1.jpg 720w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-70412\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tamsin Murphy<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cBecause we\u2019re small, riders get to know each other better and develop closer friendships. A lot are friends outside, but met through Pony Club and catch up during the month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll our parents are fantastic. We\u2019re so lucky that everyone\u2019s friends and supports each other, and that\u2019s the beauty of having such a small group,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Rokewood Pony Club meets for a rally on the first Sunday of every month, excluding January. Memberships are offered to riders as young as five.<\/p>\n<p>Based at the Woady Yaloak Equestrian Centre, Smythesdale, they\u2019re part of Pony Club Victoria\u2019s Barwon zone and launched in 2001, originally based in Rokewood.<\/p>\n<p>They usually facilitate one competition each year, the Pony Club and Open Combined Training Day, although this won\u2019t run in 2020 due to COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur fundraising efforts are a little bit hampered by that, but we\u2019ll manage,\u201d Ms Gass said.<\/p>\n<p>Riders are welcome from anywhere in the region.
