{"id":70860,"date":"2020-09-06T04:55:04","date_gmt":"2020-09-05T18:55:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=70860"},"modified":"2020-09-02T11:28:06","modified_gmt":"2020-09-02T01:28:06","slug":"show-through-window","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/show-through-window\/","title":{"rendered":"Soldiers Hill Artist Collective on show through the windows"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ALTHOUGH <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/SoldiersHillArtistCollective\/\">Soldiers Hill Artist Collective<\/a>\u2019s annual <a href=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/artwalk-march-in-soldiers-hill\/?fbclid=IwAR3x83KxDem01Fc5HfCniCLINIuS_aPfLf-gV5kg9yrI_6SwMdvjoNC3mqs\">Art Walk<\/a> was cancelled for 2020, the group have ensured residents wandering around the neighbourhood have creative work to spot, stop and enjoy.<\/p>\n<p>Diverse works of SHAC artists are being exhibited in the shopfronts of accountancy firm, James East &amp; Associates on Lydiard and Seymour Streets, Tin Roof caf\u00e9 on Lydiard and MacArthur Streets, and the old butcher\u2019s shop on Neill and Seymour Streets.<\/p>\n<p>Curator, Cliff Adeney said people can walk the streets of Soldiers Hill and peek through shop windows to see the Collective\u2019s art, which will be there on a semi-permanent basis and changed periodically.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_70862\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-70862\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-70862\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2020\/08\/1W5A7571-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-70862\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Curator, Cliff Adeney at the old butcher\u2019s shop, one of three exhibition locations he\u2019s coordinated this round.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cNeale Thompson\u2019s wooden furniture, <a href=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/walk-off-but-true-outsider-art-partly-on-show\/\">Rosey King<\/a>\u2019s weaving and fabric fibre art, Judith Bryce\u2019s fibre art weaving, Helmut Stenzel\u2019s printmaking using old letterpresses, Elaine Wheildon\u2019s paintings, Ollie Fraser\u2019s handstitched wall hangings of birds, and a bronze sculpture and painting by Abi Robertson are all in the butcher\u2019s shop,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Adeney\u2019s paintings are up in the accountant\u2019s, while Lynne Makings\u2019 painting and Kate Cullinan\u2019s mixed media works are showcased in the caf\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re putting the art out there, and people can view the beautiful pieces in their own time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Part of SHAC\u2019s philosophy is that the community and art are intertwined.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cArtwork contributes enormously to community and to the city as a whole. We believe, by putting our art there, it might be a spark to boost the morale of the town in a way,\u201d Adeney said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re self-funded, all self-generated, and we think we\u2019re leading the way in terms of <a href=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/news\/words-and-imagery-in-harmony\/\">community art<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lights are on at the butcher\u2019s shop after dark, from 6pm to 9pm, so those out for a later walk can still enjoy the works installed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ALTHOUGH Soldiers Hill Artist Collective\u2019s annual Art Walk was cancelled for 2020, the group have ensured residents wandering around the neighbourhood have creative work to spot, stop and enjoy.
