{"id":71237,"date":"2020-09-15T04:56:47","date_gmt":"2020-09-14T18:56:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=71237"},"modified":"2020-09-10T13:08:22","modified_gmt":"2020-09-10T03:08:22","slug":"everyday-photos-give-the-other-ballarat-love","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/everyday-photos-give-the-other-ballarat-love\/","title":{"rendered":"Everyday photos give The Other Ballarat love"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WHEN you shut your eyes and imagine the Ballarat you know and love, what imagery comes into your mind?<\/p>\n<p>A month-old Instagram page is having fun with the concept of <em>The Other Ballarat<\/em>, curating photos of neighbourhood pockets and broader city details that wouldn\u2019t typically feature in glossy marketing material.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Other Ballarat<\/em> curator, Jen Founder launched the project when all she seemed to notice seeing on social media was a very small part of where she lives; always &#8220;the same Ballarat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLake Wendouree and the heritage precinct in the centre of town is beautiful, but they\u2019re featured heavily on the council\u2019s Instagram and the Visit Ballarat accounts,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese things are lovely, but we also have sunsets in the other suburbs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s an old saying that Victoria doesn\u2019t end at Melbourne\u2019s tram tracks, and it\u2019s the same with Ballarat. Think cool mid-century buildings out in Sebas, old sheds&#8230; It\u2019s fun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Attributing photos to their original source, Ms Founder shares shots locals have taken while living life in \u201ctheir everyday town,\u201d from popular walking tracks, to old local pubs, to buildings that are dilapidated or derelict.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese things are all part of Ballarat. The account is about finding ordinary beauty in the things we see every day,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe account is not heavily curated, the photos aren\u2019t all by good amateur photographers or professionals, and they\u2019re from all over the town, including Warrenheip, Sebastopol, Redan, the Yarrowee River Trail&#8230; places that just don\u2019t get a mention.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ms Founder has gained hundreds of followers within a few weeks, understanding her neighbours are \u201ckeen to see a realer view\u201d of their home or nearby suburbs.<\/p>\n<p>The page already has loyal fans sending in their photos or hash tagging them <strong>#theotherballarat<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>White Flat, Brown Hill Pool, Woowookarung Regional Park, the Millers Arms Hotel, a mural in Ballarat East and the Sebastopol Library are just some of the locations getting their time in the spotlight.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the best things is seeing the town through a variety of eyes,\u201d Ms Founder said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe get gorgeous sunrise pics, but also photos of shopping trolleys dumped at Black Hill.
