{"id":71742,"date":"2020-10-01T04:54:03","date_gmt":"2020-09-30T18:54:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=71742"},"modified":"2020-10-01T11:05:47","modified_gmt":"2020-10-01T01:05:47","slug":"mining-mud-medals-history","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/mining-mud-medals-history\/","title":{"rendered":"Mining war history book recognised by awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>MINING Mud &amp; Medals<\/em>, a book about Ballarat\u2019s Australian Army Tunnelling Corps men of the First World War, has been shortlisted in the Premier\u2019s History, and Victorian Community History, awards.<\/p>\n<p>The publication was written over four years by a sub-committee of Ballarat historians and researchers.<\/p>\n<p>Project manager, Yvon Davis said men of the Tunnelling Companies in WW1 have often been \u201coverlooked.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe book looks at the history of the School of Mines, the Avenues of Honour and, most importantly, biographies of over 170 tunnellers from the Ballarat electorate, and more,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s all beautifully illustrated in a hardcover book.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ms Davis said the sub-committee, part of the Victorian Interpretive Projects, are honoured to have their book recognised.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_71745\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-71745\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-71745\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2020\/10\/6118543-300x232.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"232\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2020\/10\/6118543-300x232.jpg 300w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2020\/10\/6118543.jpg 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-71745\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sapper William Bonar (right), November 1917, Nieuport-Bains, Belgium.
