ed to reconnect with their friends and their learning at school.<\/p>\nTHE city\u2019s primary school students headed back on campus last Monday morning following term three\u2019s remote learning period due to COVID-19.<\/p>\n
At Urquhart Park Primary School in Newington, principal Janet Hillgrove welcomed 350 children on site.<\/p>\n
Following the Victorian chief health officer\u2019s advice, the school has enforced the Department of Education\u2019s guidelines to establish an ideal and safe teaching and learning environment.<\/p>\n
They aren\u2019t currently able to run all of their usual co-curricular activities, but Mrs Hillgrove said Urquhart Park has \u201ccoped remarkably well,\u201d has been positive and understanding.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m really thankful and proud of our children, our families and our staff. We have such a fantastic community who are extremely supportive and have helped us make the changes that we have needed to make,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe staff have really worked together, and the children are very excited to reconnect with their friends and their learning at school.<\/p>\n
\u201cI even heard a couple of foundation children say that they\u2019d forgotten their friends\u2019 names because they\u2019d been away from school for so long.\u201d<\/p>\n
Grade 6 captains, Clodagh, Luka, Malachey and Piper said it felt strange to be back in the classroom, but good to establish a proper school-day routine again.<\/p>\n
\u201cSeeing all our friends is a really great feeling because most of us haven\u2019t been able to talk to everyone in two months,\u201d Luka said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s really awesome to catch up and talk about what we\u2019ve been doing for the last few weeks.\u201d<\/p>\n
Malachey said it was a little nerve wracking to be back on campus, but he was getting used to the experience.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m really glad I\u2019m back to school, able to see everyone again and can catch up on work I haven\u2019t done in a while. It\u2019s great to be back,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Piper said there was plenty of normality at Urquhart Park, but a few touches of difference.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s social distancing, and we stay in our classroom while our specialist teachers come to us,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
