TAKING a wholistic approach to ethical and sustainable beekeeping, boutique apiary, Enbom Honeys is Dunnstown\u2019s sweetest small business.<\/p>\n

Mother and daughter beekeepers, Angela Enbom and Millie Enbom-Goad produce seasonal honey sold at their farmgate shop, The Honey Drop.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll our honey is from our bees, it\u2019s not from anyone else\u2019s hives,\u201d Ms Enbom-Goad said.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur types of honey depend on what\u2019s flowering, and what the bees have just gathered. The flavours change, everyone has a different preference and likes to try.<\/p>\n

Enbom Honeys produces varying products from red gum to messmate.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

\u201cWe have raw, runny honey. Red gum, a mellow, darker honey is my favourite. Yellow gum is a lighter, sweeter honey common in this area. Messmate is from a stringybark tree which is darker and stronger again, and we do a traditional creamed honey.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ms Enbom said the honey is unfiltered, which means it retains natural antimicrobial properties.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe can trace the honey back to the apiary, the trees, the time in the month, and when the bees gathered it,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Working as a lawyer, Ms Enbom-Goad\u2019s passion project is queen rearing, managing the hives with her mum; a contrast to the busyness of a legal firm.<\/p>\n

\u201cKeeping bees, like anything in nature, forces you to stop, listen, pay attention and observe what\u2019s going on.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s something really special about doing that and we really enjoy that time together, whether we\u2019re in the yard or out in the bush,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

The Honey Drop is open every Saturday morning from 9am to 12pm, but can open by appointment to accommodate customer availability.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have our seasonal honey on vat, and we encourage customers to refill and taste,\u201d Ms Enbom said.<\/p>\n

Enbom Honeys offer education programs, and stock their honey at 1816 Bakehouse, Websters Market & Caf\u00e9 and Talbot Providore.<\/p>\n

They source local timber and build all their beekeeping equipment on site, using renewable resources where possible.<\/p>\n
