{"id":72437,"date":"2020-11-05T04:57:50","date_gmt":"2020-11-04T18:57:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=72437"},"modified":"2020-11-09T11:36:39","modified_gmt":"2020-11-09T00:36:39","slug":"ballarat-veterans-assistance-centre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/ballarat-veterans-assistance-centre\/","title":{"rendered":"Support centre opens doors to veterans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Ballarat Veterans Assistance Centre will launch this month on Barkly Street as a one-stop shop for ex-servicepeople to access support and resources.<\/p>\n<p>Where needed, the facility will link veterans, or their network of family and friends with consultants, including those who can liaise with the Department of Veterans Affairs and advocate for individuals.<\/p>\n<p>One-on-one counselling sessions are already available.<\/p>\n<p>BVAC president Greg Green said doors will open from Tuesday, 17 November, 10am to 2pm.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the flag is flying, we\u2019ll be there,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe committee has worked hard to create a centre that provides a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere with trained volunteers available to assist veterans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ll be open on the 17th, 18th and 19th, and every week after that until mid-December we\u2019ll be open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Drop in for information, support and a cuppa.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A veterans\u2019 sausage sizzle is planned for 5pm on Friday, 27 November on site. Everyone is welcome. Barbecues, family events and social gatherings will be regularly planned.<\/p>\n<p>The BVAC is an initiative of the local Military Brotherhood Military Motorcycle Club Vic West sub-branch, and supported by the City of Ballarat and external veterans advocacy groups including the Ballarat RSL.<\/p>\n<p>The centre has been delivered with funding boosts from DVA, the Stronger Communities and Volunteers Support grants programs.<\/p>\n<p>After hours appointments can be made with DVA advocates by emailing<a href=\"mailto:support@bvac.net.au\"><strong> support@bvac.net.au<\/strong><\/a>, and a volunteer will respond to inquiries within three working days.<\/p>\n<p>Find the BVAC at 41 Barkly Street.
