{"id":73190,"date":"2020-12-24T04:45:01","date_gmt":"2020-12-23T17:45:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=73190"},"modified":"2020-12-24T08:49:33","modified_gmt":"2020-12-23T21:49:33","slug":"hawks-fly-high-at-home","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/sport\/hawks-fly-high-at-home\/","title":{"rendered":"Hawks fly high at home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CITY Oval Bowling Club had an early Christmas celebration with its teams that played at home on Saturday all getting wins in Ballarat District Bowls Division action.<\/p>\n<p>Yet the success didn\u2019t translate to the road as the Hawks Division 2 side lost at Bungaree, while Division 4 went down at Victoria.<\/p>\n<p>Back at the nest, City Oval&#8217;s Pennant Division 1 game against Victoria saw a mixed result for the Hawks with two rinks winning comfortably and two going down to Big-V combinations.<\/p>\n<p>On the beautiful grass surface running at 14 seconds, the best draw bowlers came to the fore.<\/p>\n<p>Peter Cameron was in outstanding form for the home side as he, Leigh McKenzie, Liz Kierce and Ken Magrath won by 20 shots.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_73566\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-73566\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-73566\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2020\/12\/IMG_1009-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-73566\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jamie Winton from the Hawks Division 8 Gold side.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Not to be outdone, Dante Prenc, Peter Hawkins, Helene Stenning and Noel Verlinden for the Vics also played superbly scoring by 15 shots.<\/p>\n<p>The overall result saw the Hawks win by 16 shots, meaning they hold top position on the table with four wins and a loss, and sit above Midlands, Beaufort and Victoria, who make up the top four positions on the Division 1 ladder.<\/p>\n<p>Also at home, the Hawks\u2019 Division 5 side had a seven-shot victory over Learmonth meaning they hold top position on the ladder, while City Oval Brown and Gold hold the top two spots in Division 8.<\/p>\n<p>After the match, City Oval held their Christmas function where the 2019\/2020 awards were presented.<\/p>\n<p>The Club Champions were, Ben Morris in men, and Elizabeth Kierce in women.<\/p>\n<p>Kierce was also the BDBD and Regional 60+ Singles champion and she with Jenny Harman are currently the 60+ BDBD and Regional pairs champions.
