{"id":73241,"date":"2020-12-28T04:55:57","date_gmt":"2020-12-27T17:55:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=73241"},"modified":"2020-12-22T16:01:50","modified_gmt":"2020-12-22T05:01:50","slug":"talina-edwards-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/talina-edwards-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"Architect celebrates year of success"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SUSTAINABLE architect Talina Edwards is wrapping up a successful 2020 in business, having received six industry awards in the last twelve months.<\/p>\n<p>The<em> Passivhaus<\/em> design expert and principal of firm Talina Edwards Architecture has a green focus, creating homes that are healthier to live in, and can be heated or cooled with minimal use of energy.<\/p>\n<p>At the ArchiTeam Awards she won the Contribution and Innovation Medal, and Sustainability Medal on the behalf of Architects Declare.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_73243\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-73243\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-73243\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2020\/12\/baFwgY8c-300x200.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2020\/12\/baFwgY8c-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2020\/12\/baFwgY8c-768x512.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2020\/12\/baFwgY8c-272x182.jpeg 272w, https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2020\/12\/baFwgY8c.jpeg 900w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-73243\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Talina Edwards<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Sustainability Awards saw Ms Edwards named Emerging Sustainable Architect\/Designer, and at the Design Matters National Awards she took the Best Residential &#8211; New House Up to $500,000 to $1 million for her Owl Woods Passive House.<\/p>\n<p>At the BDAA Awards the same project won the National Design Excellence Award and the Best New residential building that was 251 to 350 square metres and over $2500 per square metre.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am so honoured to have received so much recognition at industry awards this year,\u201d Ms Edwards said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt has been quite overwhelming and unexpected, but it also allows to me to share stories of <em>Passivhaus<\/em> so it becomes desired by all Australians, as we can help to educate more people to learn about how to expect more from our buildings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe deserve better in the design of buildings, and it doesn\u2019t require much change to be able to design buildings that will improve the quality of our lives, while reducing the amount of energy required to live comfortably in them, resulting in healthier people and a healthier planet. Who wouldn\u2019t want that?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The unique Owl Woods Passive House is in Trentham and was completed last year. It\u2019s one of the initial 20 <em>Passivhauses<\/em> to be certified across the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m passionate about helping people create a healthy, beautiful, functional, comfortable and sustainable home, and life, that they love and that doesn\u2019t cost the earth,\u201d Ms Edwards said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA certified <em>Passivhaus<\/em> gives the quality assurance that your home environment will be healthy to live in and require minimal heating and cooling throughout the year, even in places like Ballarat and Trentham where it snows.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf 2020 has taught us anything, it\u2019s how important our health and wellbeing is&#8230;but we also need to respond to the climate crisis and design more buildings with a lower carbon footprint.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ms Edwards was shortlisted in the sustainability category of the HOUSES Awards for the Owl Woods Passive House, and was a Women in Sustainability finalist at the Sustainability Awards.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SUSTAINABLE architect Talina Edwards is wrapping up a successful 2020 in business, having received six industry awards in the last twelve months.
