{"id":73316,"date":"2021-01-07T04:56:30","date_gmt":"2021-01-06T17:56:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=73316"},"modified":"2021-01-07T09:07:54","modified_gmt":"2021-01-06T22:07:54","slug":"smythesdale-fiesta","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/smythesdale-fiesta\/","title":{"rendered":"Creative Fiesta back at Smythesdale"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE postponed Smythesdale Arts and Music Fiesta will come alive in the Shire\u2019s north next month.<\/p>\n<p>Coordinator, Barry Wemyss said the free, inclusive festival, based at the town green and The Well, is \u201can event all about community engagement; that\u2019s the bottom line.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to offer exposure opportunities for our fantastic established and emerging local artists, inviting them to take part, and show the general public what\u2019s happening in their own backyard art-wise,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_73320\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-73320\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-73320\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2021\/01\/DSC_0023-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-73320\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Ensembles and solo performing artists will bring music to the town green.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cYou could have an artist next door to you, or down the road, and not know. Haddon\u2019s Vida Pearson, for example, has a national and international following.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Fiesta will include a visual arts exhibition inside The Well showcasing diverse local artists of \u201coutstanding quality,\u201d who produce functional and sculptural ceramics, are printmakers, acrylic painters and more.<\/p>\n<p>Creatives like Marita Reynolds and Sketch Club will run workshops, Megan J Riedl will present poetry readings, attendees can enjoy outdoor sculptures, artisans\u2019 stalls, and hear live music from solo performing artists and ensembles like Celtic-country group The Barnacoyle Band.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cArt is art. It doesn\u2019t need to be glossy like a new car, it just needs to be saying something,\u201d Mr Wemyss said<\/p>\n<p>Although not yet confirmed, he is keen on hosting a car club, and screening a historically significant film showcase.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Wemyss grew up in Smythesdale and is the vice-president of Golden Plains Arts Incorporated; a collective with an 80-strong membership.<\/p>\n<p>The Fiesta was his idea, and he has passionately driven the project with support from GP Arts Inc.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTwo or three years ago, I tabled the idea of batting for artists in the north-end of the Golden Plains. My pitch was that it\u2019s a grass is greener scenario; we always miss out up here.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_73321\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-73321\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-73321\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2021\/01\/DSC_0143-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-73321\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Well will be home to an exhibition of mixed visual arts.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cSmythesdale has the perfect spot for events, opposite the Court House Hotel on the green.
