A VETERINARY clinic will be built on Brooke Street in Smythesdale after councilors granted a planning permit at the Tuesday, 19 January regular council meeting.<\/p>\n
The Shire\u2019s director of infrastructure and development Phil Josipovic said the application satisfied the local planning scheme and policies, and the development and use of the property will minimally impact the surrounding area.<\/p>\n
Objector to the plan Terri Pryse-Smith said the vet clinic would be based at an \u201cinappropriate site.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s opposite a school, adjacent to a hotel which may result in traffic and pedestrian hazards, and noise and odour… may affect outdoor dining at the hotel,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cModernist design is starkly at odds with heritage overlay in the town. There is already one vet clinic in Smythesdale and the population demographics do not warrant another one.\u201d<\/p>\n
Cr Owen Sharkey said he was pleased to see the action and economic \u201cstimulation\u201d in Smythesdale.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe private market will determine what goes into these spaces,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Project architect Ryan Thompson said the permit conditions are \u201creasonable,\u201d with the township\u2019s best interests in mind.<\/p>\n
Cr Gavin Gamble said he was \u201cimpressed\u201d with the building\u2019s \u201csympathetic\u201d design.<\/p>\n
An amendment to the application was made to address potential noise concerns.<\/p>\n
Cr Sharkey also said no community consultation meetings were held due to COVID-19. He requested that development mediation processes return soon.<\/p>\n

Inverleigh sports tender allocated<\/strong><\/p>\n Bowden Corporation will construct the Inverleigh Sporting Complex changeroom and social space upgrade.<\/p>\n The more than $1.655 million project will include new inclusive female changerooms, first-aid, massage and storage rooms, new sports pavilion changerooms and toilets, an extension of the social space, and new kitchen, bar and refrigeration spaces, in line with AFL Victoria Preferred Facility Guidelines for local level facilities.<\/p>\n Just over $96,000 will be redirected to the project from money originally allocated to the new green at the Bannockburn and District Bowls Club. That money came out of an allocation to the Shire from the Federal Government Local Roads and Community Infrastructure funding scheme.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n
