{"id":73748,"date":"2021-02-06T04:56:12","date_gmt":"2021-02-05T17:56:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=73748"},"modified":"2021-02-02T15:21:55","modified_gmt":"2021-02-02T04:21:55","slug":"bannockburn-skate-scoot-bmx","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/bannockburn-skate-scoot-bmx\/","title":{"rendered":"Fun and a friendly comp at Skate Park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SKATE, scoot or ride your BMX in the Shire\u2019s free Bannockburn Skate Park clinic and competition this month.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, 20 February YMCA Action Sports will facilitate two beginner clinics for skateboarders, scooter or BMX riders at 9am and 10am, before age group competitions at 11am and 4pm.<\/p>\n<p>YMCA Action Sports\u2019 operations director Matt Brett said the program aims to be \u201call-inclusive\u201d to build the confidence of young people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen it comes to skateboarding, the kids will learn the correct stance, basic pushing and how to fall correctly. For scooter, it\u2019s a little bit easier with handlebars, but they\u2019ll learn the same basic skills,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe people running the Skate Park Leagues clinics and competition are experts in all of the different obstacles in the park, so they can teach the kids the best way to approach certain obstacles.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSkate park activation is also part of what we do, getting the community involved.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Prizes will be available at the competitions. Participants should bring their own helmet, but some scooters and skateboards will be available for those who don\u2019t have equipment.<\/p>\n<p>Golden Plains Shire mayor Cr Helena Kirby said the free sessions have run before and they\u2019re popular.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCouncil is excited to deliver these events with YMCA Action Sports thanks to funding from the Victorian Government\u2019s FreeZA program,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI encourage all interested locals aged eight to 25 years to get involved. This will be the last major event at the old Bannockburn Skate Park before works get started in a few months to upgrade this popular facility.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, 20 March, a similar event will run in Smythesdale.
