CENTRAL Wendouree’s Ian Barnett celebrated a return to bowls after the short COVID lockdown with a Division 3 win on home own turf in their game against Webbcona in Ballarat District Bowls Division Saturday Pennant action.<\/p>\n
Barnett said his rink, comprising Cec Gunn, Jan Vincent and Peter Fletcher, all “enjoyed good bowls with everyone backing each other up throughout the afternoon,” which he attributed to the strong win over Tom Constable, and helped set up the victory for the home team.<\/p>\n
The rinks of John Adams and Brian Mahony also had wins with only the rink of Bill Wilkins dipping out to Charles Darken.<\/p>\n
“The greens played true and were in great condition, which contributed to a high standard of bowls being played,\u201d Barnett said.<\/p>\n
Central Wendouree’s Division 3 side is currently in sixth position on the ladder with 89 points and behind fourth placed Sebastopol on 124 points. Midlands are at fifth on 105 and with only two games to play both the trailing sides will struggle to make the post season.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile Central Wendouree’s top side in Division 1 is on a quest to play finals. They travelled to Webbcona and came home with a 25-shot victory, placing them in third position on the table and just ahead of Victoria and City Oval.<\/p>\n
Len Vincent’s rink of Meryl Holloway, Marg O’Meara and Barry Adams had a strong win against Tom Clarke, and together with Colin Johnson and Anthony Gutteridge secured the points with only Ian Long’s narrowly losing out to Webbcona’s Colin Young.<\/p>\n
“It was a very good team effort all round” said Vincent.<\/p>\n
Also Central Wendouree’s bowls coordinator, Vincent said their next home game against Victoria “will be a match crucial to both teams.\u201d<\/p>\n
