A NEW era\u2019s begun at Buninyong\u2019s Red Door Pizzeria with former owner, Trevor Whitworth passing on the pizza peel to Katrine Taylor.<\/p>\n

Also the operator of local caf\u00e9, Maggie & Kate, Ms Taylor was drawn to buy the restaurant – only a few doors up – because of her experience as a customer.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe love it as a family. We would often come here, and I\u2019ve watched it grow as my business grew down the road,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cTrevor had such a great following already, and his recipes are great, so when he said they\u2019d be part of the parcel, I thought, I can do this.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe business will basically be the same. We\u2019ve got 14 staff; most of Trevor\u2019s have stayed on, we\u2019ve brought in some from the caf\u00e9, alongside a couple of newbies.\u201d<\/p>\n

A new wine list is being developed, and Allpress Espresso coffee will soon be served.<\/p>\n

Some things change, some things stay the same.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Although already open, Red Door\u2019s hours will change from next month, operating on Thursday and Friday nights, Saturdays for lunch and dinner, and Sundays from late morning into the afternoon.<\/p>\n

Growing up in Buninyong, and now raising her own children there, Ms Taylor wants to offer a space where families can relax together on weekends.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe love going out on Sundays. That\u2019s our family day, but I realised there\u2019s nowhere really to go and do that here, to enjoy a Sunday session of food and music.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo we\u2019re going to embrace that. We\u2019ve got a beautiful, big space, and we\u2019ve opened up the backyard, which hasn\u2019t been used recently. We plan to extend it back,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom March, we\u2019ll have live music on Sundays, and open for lunch from 12pm, to about 5pm. It will be something a bit different, and we\u2019ll extend the menu to share-plates and platters.\u201d<\/p>\n

Although \u201cexhausting,\u201d Ms Taylor is relishing the challenge of running her contrasting venues.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the caf\u00e9, our customers are mostly locals, but we don\u2019t do table service. Now serving tables again at the restaurant, I\u2019ve realised how much I missed that connection with customers.<\/p>\n

\u201cHaving worked in restaurants and bars, creating a local wine list and talking to breweries is exciting… and I\u2019m learning to cook pizza, which I\u2019d never done before,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

On Friday, 19 March, Saltbush Kitchen, The Shared Table and Red Door Pizzeria are hosting a progressive dinner.<\/p>\n
