THE Haddon Centenary Lions Park playground is now back open for public use following an upgrade.<\/p>\n
Part of Golden Plains Shire\u2019s plan to renovate six play paces this this year, the $64,000 upgrade which finished up in late February included replacement of the swings and a slide, installation of a stepping trail of rocks and balancing logs, and other general maintenance works.<\/p>\n
While paying a visit to the upgraded playground, Golden Plains mayor Cr Helena Kirby said it was a great result for families in the area.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith a great local primary school, Haddon is home to many young families who I\u2019m sure will welcome the news that the Centenary Lions Park playground is back open and better than ever,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cPlaygrounds are one of council\u2019s most popular and well-loved facilities, particularly in our smaller communities.<\/p>\n
The refurbishment was fully funded by the Federal Government\u2019s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.<\/p>\n
As part of that grant process the Shire received just over $240,000 to upgrade play spaces in Dereel, Linton, and Garibaldi, as well as Haddon.<\/p>\n
Member for Wannon Dan Tehan said the Program continues to support local jobs, businesses and boost the economy during COVID-19.<\/p>\n
\u201cI commend Golden Plains Shire council in using this funding stream to improve the quality, accessibility, and amenity of their play spaces,\u201d said Mr Tehan.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe playgrounds improve the quality of life for local communities and visitors to the region, encouraging play, access to nature and liveability and have lasting economic and social benefits.\u201d<\/p>\n
With the Dereel playground completed in January, works in Gerbaldi set to begin this month and planning underway for the Linton upgrade, the Shire have also secured another $250,000 to overhaul Enfield\u2019s Harrison Reserve playground with money from the second round of the program.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
