GALLERY on Sturt\u2019s latest exhibition takes viewers into the creative worlds of printmakers Marie Mason and Anne Langdon.<\/p>\n

The Dreamscapes & Landscapes <\/em>show features the lino and reduction printed landscapes by Mason, while a mix of Langdon\u2019s lino and screen prints, collages, drawings, and watercolours are on display.<\/p>\n

Mason and Langdon are both members of the Goldfields Printmakers group, as artists from Smythes Creek and Smythesdale respectively.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I moved here from Melbourne, Anne let me use her press, which big enough to print A3, two afternoons a week. Gradually, we became firm friends,\u201d Mason said.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnne does dreamscapes, usually with a human aspect, but they\u2019re about the environment, the landscape, her love of birds, flowers and the sky.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy prints are all based on places I\u2019ve been, I\u2019ve holidayed, or I\u2019ve lived.\u201d<\/p>\n

The pair enjoy heading down the road to one another\u2019s studios, to bounce visual ideas off each other while they\u2019ve got a new print or artwork in development.<\/p>\n

\u201cArtists can talk art all day,\u201d Mason said.<\/p>\n

Gallery on Sturt director Leigh Tweedie said the exhibition\u2019s recent opening night was a great success, and sales are steady.<\/p>\n

\u201cFramed artworks by Anne and Marie are on exhibit, and unframed prints from the same edition are also available,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was the first opening we\u2019ve had since this time last year. Twelve months ago, on 20 March, we were about to open Pauline O\u2019Shannessy-Dowling\u2019s exhibition Intricate<\/em>, when COVID restrictions changed all that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mason said about 60 people attended the Dreamscapes & Landscapes <\/em>opening evening, where she met fellow art-lovers, artists and collectors.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was very enjoyable, and very lovely for Ballarat. People were lined up at the door,\u201d she laughed.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnne and I have sold lots of framed and unframed works already. When people are willing to buy our works, it\u2019s wonderful and gives us confidence.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need to show our work and sell some of the work in order to keep the confidence in what we\u2019re doing, and our view of the environments.\u201d<\/p>\n
