{"id":74738,"date":"2021-04-01T04:57:35","date_gmt":"2021-03-31T17:57:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=74738"},"modified":"2021-04-01T07:50:59","modified_gmt":"2021-03-31T20:50:59","slug":"fun-in-the-sun-on-bunnys-big-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/fun-in-the-sun-on-bunnys-big-day\/","title":{"rendered":"Fun in the sun on Bunny\u2019s big day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>IT was all about celebrating bunny ears and chocolate eggs on Sunday as Smythesdale\u2019s historic precinct turned into an Easter festival.<\/p>\n<p>Run by the town\u2019s progress association, the Easter Children\u2019s Fun Day featured themed activities like crafts and food decoration, a barbecue and raffle, as well as a visit from the star attraction &#8211; the Easter Bunny.<\/p>\n<p>Organiser Lin Hocking-Turnbull said the fun day came about because the community missed out on another big event.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause of COVID we couldn\u2019t run our normal Christmas carols, so we decided to turn it into an Easter event,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_74740\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-74740\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-74740\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2021\/03\/IMG_6302-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-74740\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Conner from Snake Valley tucks into his Easter biscuit creation.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s all been paid for by the community coordinators, so it doesn\u2019t cost anybody anything, and we just thought it would be a nice thing to do.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve had the Easter Bunny once though this morning and she\u2019s on her way back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That idea about being able to bring people together in a post-COVID world resonated with Elizabeth Walsh.<\/p>\n<p>The Snake Valley resident brought along her two boys, Conner and Hamish, and they were getting busy decorating bunny themed biscuits and making baskets for the all-important Easter eggs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s just fun,\u201d Ms Walsh said. \u201cThey love Easter, they love lollies, but they love the activities and face painting mostly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s something we haven\u2019t been able to do for a while. They\u2019ve had Australia Day and now they\u2019ve had this, and they\u2019ve really enjoyed them both.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019ve had a lot of isolation, so to be able to do things with other kids again is nice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Run by the Smythesdale Progress Association and supported by the Woady Yaloak Historical Society, the day was also backed by a range of volunteers and community businesses including the town\u2019s IGA supermarket, Linda\u2019s Gifts, Nail Em Beauty and Barry Plant Real Estate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve had people cutting out bunny shapes and rabbit ears and faces and everything for weeks,\u201d Ms Hocking-Turnbull said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve been very lucky with the support from our sponsors and volunteers.
