{"id":74764,"date":"2021-04-05T04:53:51","date_gmt":"2021-04-04T18:53:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=74764"},"modified":"2021-04-04T09:19:20","modified_gmt":"2021-04-03T23:19:20","slug":"bringing-bollywood-to-ballarat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/bringing-bollywood-to-ballarat\/","title":{"rendered":"Bringing Bollywood to Ballarat"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>INDIA is home one of the largest film industries around the globe.<\/p>\n<p>But if you\u2019re based in regional Victoria, City of Ballarat intercultural ambassador Bobby Mehta said it\u2019s a challenge to access and enjoy a Bollywood movie.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I moved here 10 years ago, from a very multicultural place just out of London, I noticed people in Ballarat have to go to Melbourne to watch a Hindi movie,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wanted to change that and bring Bollywood to Ballarat.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With the support of Regent Cinemas\u2019 Steve Anderson, Mr Mehta has launched the ongoing Ballarat Indian Film Festival, looking after the program schedule and booking all Indian movies shown on site.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re bringing in whatever films we think are going to attract the local Indian community and Aussies coming to watch as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve got a huge film launching on Friday, 9 April; <em>Chehre<\/em> starring Emraan Hashmi and Bollywood living legend Amitabh Bachchan. We\u2019re having a premiere on the day it\u2019s released, which is going to be awesome, with tickets released on \u2018Great\u2019 Friday,\u201d Mr Mehta laughed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re all subtitled, and Bollywood has moved on in recent years, taking on a lot of different topical issues which appeal to a wider range of people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Run on behalf of his charity, Support Motivate and Serve, which is in its 20th anniversary year, the festival is a \u201creal community initiative\u201d in line with the not-for-profit\u2019s values.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve got a lot of businesses really supporting this throughout Ballarat, helping to share the message, which is fantastic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCome along and support the event so we can make it permanent.
