OVER two-hundred and fifty pool and spa owners in Golden Plains Shire could be facing fines after the municipality noted they may not have registered the spaces under State Government law.<\/p>\n
Figures show just under 1000 building permits were issued for pools and spas on private property, but about 28 per cent of them were not registered as part of safety standards stemming from the Building Regulations Act 2018<\/em>.<\/p>\n
The deadline for compulsory registration of pools and spas was set at 1 June 2020 but extended to 1 November of that year due to COVID-19.<\/p>\n
Now the Shire is giving people with pools and spas until 1 August to register and avoid further action. Sanctions for not registering could include fines between $363 and $1817.<\/p>\n
Once pools and spas are listed with the municipality, at a cost of $32, a Certificate of Pool Barrier Compliance from a qualified builder is required, and will need to be recertified every four years.<\/p>\n
