ALFREDTON Rotary Club is inviting the community to Lift the Lid on mental illness later this month.<\/p>\n
Hosting a morning tea at 10am on Monday, 26 July at the Canberra Hotel, all collected proceeds will support the mental health work within Australian Rotary Health programs, as part of the Lift the Lid fundraising and awareness campaign.<\/p>\n
Alfredton Rotary\u2019s Jill Oliver welcomes anyone to enjoy the morning and find out more about Rotary\u2019s mental health research initiatives assisting those impacted by illnesses including depression and anxiety.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur Alfredton members will make the food, it\u2019s $20 per head, people can come and have a cuppa and something to eat, and it\u2019s going to a good cause,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe money goes to various programs each year, including adopting a research scientist, rural medical and nursing scholarships, and supporting Indigenous youth.<\/p>\n
\u201cAustralian Rotary Health is Rotary\u2019s own charitable organisation, will all proceeds going straight to research.\u201d<\/p>\n
As part of Lift the Lid fundraising before the pandemic, Alfredton Rotary supported the campaign by wearing a funny or eye-catching hat around the time of Australian Rotary Heath\u2019s annual Hat Day in October.<\/p>\n
But following the induction of their new president Denise Lyons earlier this month, and the start of the fresh 2021-2022 Rotary year, Mrs Oliver decided to coordinate the morning tea fundraiser \u201cstraight away.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople are welcome to wear a hat, but no one has to wear one or feel silly this time. It\u2019s open to all and we\u2019re very happy to welcome anyone that comes along,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe aren\u2019t asking for RSVPs; the more the merrier. We will cater for a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n
