NINETEEN local projects are sharing one hundred thousand dollars\u2019 worth of Ballarat Foundation 2021 community grants.<\/p>\n
One recipient is the Ballarat Community Garden, and group chair Sheilagh Kentish said their $3900 boost means they can construct a new greenhouse.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis grant is very important for us because it\u2019s going to enable us to expand our program,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re working together with the Ballarat Regional Multicultural Council to engage people from their network wanting to develop gardening and food-growing skills,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
With a range of groups and orgnisations across the city receiving money, Ballarat Foundation chair Wayne Weaire said those behind the programs inject the city with character.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s the work that these groups do that helps make our community what it is; a place where people do so much for each other,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Other community impact grants recipients include A Pot of Courage\u2019s tiered empowerment initiative, Ballarat Tool Library, Ballarat Community Church\u2019s Doorways program, Ballarat East Neighbourhood House\u2019s playgroup and Ballarat Community Health\u2019s Go4Green.<\/p>\n
Anglicare\u2019s cooking classes, Uniting\u2019s Meals for Change, Mercy Connect refugee mentoring, Phoenix College\u2019s Breakfast Club, the Ballarat Toy Library, and Salvos\u2019 LARF Mentoring program have also been boosted by the grants.<\/p>\n
The Foundation\u2019s Wendouree-Delacombe Sub-Fund has supported Wendouree Neighbourhood Centre\u2019s Refresh project, the Wendouree West Exodus Community\u2019s family holiday weekend, and Ballarat Neighbourhood Centre and Delacombe Chairs Forum\u2019s newsletter.<\/p>\n
Wendouree Neighbourhood Centre has also benefited from the Courier Charity Fund, alongside Uniting\u2019s Breezeway Meals program.<\/p>\n
Ballarat City Rowing Club\u2019s junior athletes received money from the Peter Amor Sports Participation Fund, as has Basketball Ballarat for their All-Abilities Rookie Hoops program.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
