THE Ballaarat Mechanics\u2019 Institute is inviting the community to try an art practice within the structure of their new series of creative workshops.<\/p>\n
Cultural development and services manager Mark Potter said the BMI will host artist Kelsie White as she facilitates four introductory watercolour painting sessions on Monday 16, Saturday 21, Monday 23 and Saturday 28 August in the library.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe art workshops are an opportunity for our members to enjoy some experiences outside of what the BMI is normally known for, which is its library, heritage books, research facilities and newspaper collection,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s also a chance for us to draw new people to enjoy the intimacy that we have within the BMI library, and encourage more of a sense of community; the roots of the BMI.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe only host small groups, so it\u2019s an ideal intimate atmosphere, also adding to the experience of those coming into access our subscription library. We\u2019re not a \u2018members only\u2019 space; we really want to welcome everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n
White\u2019s workshop will help participants understand the basics of working with vibrant watercolours, while capturing the likeness of a still life object from the Institute\u2019s collection.<\/p>\n
\u201cMix some paint, try out some techniques and leave with a special portrait of an item selected from the BMI archives,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is not a classical watercolour illustration class. My style is much more relaxed and will allow you to have fun, play and capture a still life of objects in a modern illustrative style.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s perfect for anyone wanting to try out watercolours, create some personal art for their home, or those looking for a fun and creative way to spend some time.\u201d<\/p>\n
