{"id":77286,"date":"2021-08-08T04:57:07","date_gmt":"2021-08-07T18:57:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=77286"},"modified":"2021-08-03T12:15:05","modified_gmt":"2021-08-03T02:15:05","slug":"bnt-children-black-skirt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/bnt-children-black-skirt\/","title":{"rendered":"Auditions ominous for BNT\u2019s gothic play"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>BALLARAT National Theatre plans to stage their production of <em>Children of the Black Skirt <\/em>in 2021, but first, the company needs a cast.<\/p>\n<p>Ensemble audition registrations are now open for performers over the age of 16, with the tryouts set for Phoenix College\u2019s theatre where the play, directed by Deanne Joosten, will be rehearsed and staged.<\/p>\n<p>BNT president Liana Skewes said group auditions will be held when COVID-safe to do so, as this show is \u201cheld together\u201d by performers\u2019 ability to collaborate.<\/p>\n<p>Although dark, <em>Children of the Black Skirt <\/em>was written by for children by Angela Betzien.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a gothic fairytale and a varied piece that goes through Australia\u2019s history. There\u2019s some themes of war-time and the Stolen Generation,\u201d Ms Skewes said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a way for kids to get a snapshot of the Australian identity and the varied things that make that up. Angela Betzien is an Australian playwright, which is exciting for us.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe always try to make sure that we do represent Australian work, so this particular production gives us an opportunity to capture that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ms Skewes said Joosten will be an \u201cexciting\u201d director for cast and crew members to work with as she has experience in all areas of theatre production, and the skills to support, \u201cnurture and grow\u201d the team in all areas.<\/p>\n<p>BNT has a goal to welcome audiences to<em> Children of the Black Skirt<\/em> at the end of this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis will be our first performance on stage since <em>A Christmas Carol<\/em> in 2019,\u201d Ms Skewes.<\/p>\n<p>Visit <strong>bnt.org.au<\/strong> where you can fill out a Google form and express your interest.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BALLARAT National Theatre plans to stage their production of Children of the Black Skirt in 2021, but first, the company needs a cast.
