BALLARAT Football Netball League athletes were all set to participate in the annual Transport Accident Commission Road Safety Round last weekend, and then lockdown 6.0 hit.<\/p>\n
However with the message still important regardless of action on the field or court, league general manager Shane Anwyl said TAC has strengthened their relationship with grassroots sporting organisations in recent years, and they are collaborating to promote a key message.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe TAC Road Safety Round is one of our stand-out rounds, all about encouraging people to be safe on the roads so everyone travelling to community sport can get home safely, and we fully support that,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI doubt there\u2019s a club anywhere that hasn\u2019t been touched by road trauma, and it\u2019s something we all need to work together to improve, and to help others.<\/p>\n
Senior constable of police with Ballarat Highway Patrol Jeremy Hancock said sport is an ideal platform for the messaging, connecting to \u201cmassive\u201d amounts of young and old community members.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve spent 18 months in and out of lockdown,\u201d he said. \u00a0\u201cWe\u2019ve stopped driving, and when we stop doing something for a while before doing it again, we lose some of our skills.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of wet winter roads, there\u2019s black ice on the roads… Pay attention to the roads every time you\u2019re driving, and that will help in relation to decreasing road trauma.\u201d<\/p>\n
