LINTON Primary School has been rewarded for their financial support of the Deafness Foundation.<\/p>\n
Six-year-old Sienna Ackland led the campaign, raising $450 with the support of the school, her mum, and the Linton Takeaway. Approximately $140 from the total was her own pocket money.<\/p>\n
A SoundBites family picnic, and the sale of butterfly pins generated the funds to support the Foundation which assists Sienna\u2019s brothers, two-year-old Carlo and one-year-old Max. They are profoundly and partially deaf respectively.<\/p>\n
\u201cI wanted to do something to help my brothers,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Deafness Foundation help them and other people who are deaf with cochlear implants.<\/p>\n
\u201cI saved my pocket money which I got helping mum do jobs at home, and in birthday cards my nan sent me. I sold lots of colourful butterfly pins for $5 each. They are the symbol for the deaf because butterflies can\u2019t hear.\u201d<\/p>\n
Because of this initiative, Linton Primary\u2019s acting principal Jennifer Dyer said two certificates were sent to the school from the Foundation, for the student body and Sienna.<\/p>\n
The school is also receiving a prize from the organisation to help the whole community in their learning, especially Carlo and Max once they reach school age.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe won the inaugural prize of a $3000 sound system for our school,\u201d Ms Dyer said.<\/p>\n
The school has been offered either a Phonak Digimaster 5000 Soundfield system or a FrontRow Juno Soundfield system to assist students in need of hearing assistance during classroom learning.<\/p>\n
Linton Primary are deciding which technology will be the right one for their pupils now and in the future.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
