BUNINYONG residents with a passion for their neighbourhood heritage could become part of the village\u2019s history.<\/p>\n
The Buninyong Community Bank is seeking locals\u2019 ideas as they decide on a name for their newly established Buninyong Community House at 407 Warrenheip Street.<\/p>\n
Bank spokesperson Samantha Elshaug said the recently restored and renovated building is over 100 years old.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe house has been a streetscape icon since the early 1900s, originally home to renowned local baker and delivery man, Hedrick Jones, or Paddy as he was commonly known,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe and his family called this place home from 1920 until the 1960s. We\u2019ve now put a beautiful historic image of Warrenheip Street in the 1900s onto the wall of the House\u2019s meeting room, and you can see the house depicted.\u201d<\/p>\n
The house\u2019s team have a goal to install a bronze plaque on the building\u2019s facade with its new name. One suggestion already made is Paddy\u2019s Place.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re appealing to people to give us some suggestions about what we could call the House, drawing on historic and local Buninyong aspects,\u201d Ms Elshaug said.<\/p>\n
\u201cSeeing the names the community comes up with is another great opportunity for us to engage with our local residents as we launch the House.<\/p>\n
\u201cOnce we do have a name, we\u2019ll install the plaque and host an official unveiling event.\u201d<\/p>\n
