GEELONG Landcare Network and Friends of Bannockburn Bush expect to hold their postponed Full Moon Family Fun Day in October.<\/p>\n
Running from 11am until after dark at the Bannockburn Bush Reserve, the event has been funded by the State\u2019s Community Activation and Social Isolation initiative to unite residents of the Bannockburn and Teesdale area after lockdown.<\/p>\n
Organiser Stuart McCallum said the day will also be an opportunity to \u201creconnect with country.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re making it a fun day with entertainment, music, events and food, and environmental activities, art, nature walks, and challenging bridge and cubby building,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ll also have treasure hunts looking for lost animals because we\u2019re losing so many of our indigenous species to extinction and bushfires.\u201d<\/p>\n
Information about Landcare and environmental volunteering will be available, as well as guided tours of the Reserve\u2019s flora and fauna.<\/p>\n
Originally planned for Sunday, 22 August 60 adults and between 60 and 70 children had registered, booking out the event.<\/p>\n
\u201cEverything\u2019s set up to go,\u201d Mr McCallum said. \u201cWe\u2019re oversubscribed, but the Friends of Bannockburn Bush are always keen to have people interested in visiting it, doing things there and appreciating it.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s had a very checkered history. It\u2019s been abused and used in different ways for many years, but giving people the opportunity to get out and understand how these environments work is an important thing.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Friends and Landcare Network are facilitating the event in partnership with the Golden Plains Shire and Ballarat Environment Network.<\/p>\n
