A DESIGN competition aimed at getting school students to come up with public transport solutions is pulling into Ballarat.<\/p>\n
Known as Regional Rail Revival Design Challenge 2050, the comp is a team-based event for students from grade 4 to year 10 and seeks answers to the question: What does the smart and connected city of 2050 look like?<\/p>\n
Trailed in Bendigo last year, Member for Wendouree Juliana Addison welcomed the arrival of the challenge in Ballarat.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur students have creative and innovative minds, with endless ideas,\u201d she said. \u201cWe want to hear their ideas about regional transport for smart and connected cities of the future.\u201d<\/p>\n
As part of the competition participants get access to lessons and workshops as well as input from the city\u2019s tech school.<\/p>\n
Starting in term four, the challenge crosses multiple learning areas including the STEM subjects, visual arts, visual communication and design.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a great opportunity for students in the Ballarat region to be inventive and tell us their ideas for public transport, they will learn more about transport planning and can win some fantastic prizes,\u201d said Member for Buninyong Michaela Settle.<\/p>\n
