{"id":78848,"date":"2021-10-28T04:34:48","date_gmt":"2021-10-27T17:34:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=78848"},"modified":"2021-10-30T08:49:25","modified_gmt":"2021-10-29T21:49:25","slug":"geelong-confirms-new-contract-for-scott","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/sport\/geelong-confirms-new-contract-for-scott\/","title":{"rendered":"Geelong confirms new contract for Scott"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>GEELONG CEO Steve Hocking believes Chris Scott is among the best coaches in the competition, saying the premiership mentor will have his contract extended past 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Reports emerged in early October that Scott would sign a new two-year deal, however Hocking\u2019s acknowledgement is the first official confirmation.<\/p>\n<p>Hocking left his previous role at the AFL and recently joined the club as Brian Cook&#8217;s replacement.<\/p>\n<p>Scott\u2019s contract was seen by many to be the first issue Hocking would need to solve, with opinion divided on the 45-year-old coach.<\/p>\n<p>Geelong\u2019s game style has been found wanting under finals pressure during Scott\u2019s tenure, and the lack of premierships since 2011 means some don\u2019t think he has what it takes.<\/p>\n<p>However, he comfortably has the best winning record of any coach in the game at almost 70 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>Hocking appears to favour the latter stat, telling the <em>Herald Sun<\/em> what Scott does is \u201cexceptional\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are working through that with Chris currently. We are looking to extend him,\u201d Hocking said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe will be extended. There is a contract in place for 2022 but we are committed to Chris.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe big thing with Chris is, and I have worked right across 18 clubs, so I think I am reasonably well placed to make this comment, he is in the top three or four coaches across the competition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you have a look tactically at what he does game day, it\u2019s exceptional.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The club recently lost assistants Matthew Scarlett, Corey Enright and Matthew Knights as the Cats rebuild around Scott.<\/p>\n<p>Eddie Betts and Geelong greats Harry Taylor and James Kelly have all accepted roles with the club for 2022.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>&#8211; BY SEB MOTTRAM\/ SEN<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>GEELONG CEO Steve Hocking believes Chris Scott is among the best coaches in the competition, saying the premiership mentor will have his contract extended past 2022.
