LINTON Primary School went wild and wacky last Friday as its students took part in Crazy Hair Day, presenting new and unusual dos for judging.<\/p>\n
Principal Jennifer Dyer said the School held the special event to generate financial support for parent Beck McDonald\u2019s Leukemia Foundation fundraising campaign.<\/p>\n
Ms McDonald is shaving her long hair off at the Linton Football Oval in January, hoping it can be donated to a wigmaker that supports cancer patients.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe student leadership felt it was essential to support her, because the students have been exploring the importance of giving back to others, how to support their community, and beyond, following on from their fundraising for Cottage by the Sea, and the McGrath Foundation,\u201d Ms Dyer said.<\/p>\n
\u201cEach day this term, Beck\u2019s daughter in grade 6, Issy, will be selling icy poles for 50 cents at recess time, with all profits going to her mother\u2019s Greatest Shave fundraiser.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ms McDonald said she has a mission, to \u201cshave the world from blood cancer.\u201d<\/p>\n
Any sponsorship money she receives will \u201cgive families facing blood cancer the emotional and practical support they need,\u201d fund research, and improve patients\u2019 quality of life.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery day another 47 Australians are diagnosed with a blood cancer. That’s one Aussie every 31 minutes,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlthough research is improving survival, sadly an Australian loses their life to blood cancer every two hours.<\/p>\n
\u201cI work in age care and a lot of the residents that I take care of have some form of cancer, so this is very close to my heart, as to me, my residents are like my family. This is just one small thing I can do to help the fight against cancer.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
