{"id":79184,"date":"2021-11-20T04:56:05","date_gmt":"2021-11-19T17:56:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=79184"},"modified":"2021-11-16T15:49:14","modified_gmt":"2021-11-16T04:49:14","slug":"sheilas-shed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/sheilas-shed\/","title":{"rendered":"Crafts, friends and fun in Sheila\u2019s Shed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WHILE staying at her son\u2019s home, Isabel Birch was tasked with decorating some of his handmade wooden scissor-holders.<\/p>\n<p>Brightening them up with paint and stickers, she enjoyed the creative process, and decided to continue the new-found hobby once she got home to Alfredton.<\/p>\n<p>For the 12 years since, Ms Birch has hosted a weekly Sheila\u2019s Shed social craft group, which currently includes her friends Eileen Kelly and Marj Trahar.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_79188\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-79188\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-79188\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2021\/11\/IMG_4089-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-79188\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Eileen Kelly applies some vibrant stickers to a new piece.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Painting, decorating, and wrapping wooden products made by Ms Birch\u2019s son and the Ballarat East Men\u2019s Shed, the trio continue to sell colourful scissor, key and earring holders, Christmas trees, advent calendars and more, all for charity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy granddaughter got encephalitis, and the Royal Children\u2019s Hospital saved her life, so we decided we would work to raise money for them,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve also donated to charities around Ballarat. At the moment, we have some pieces for sale at the Combined Charities Christmas Card Shop.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_79187\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-79187\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-79187\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2021\/11\/IMG_4095-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-79187\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Isabel Birch works on a Bulldogs-themed scissor holder.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Since Sheila\u2019s Shed began, the crafty ladies have sent $3,340 to the RCH. About $340 from that total was donated to the hospital in 2021 alone.<\/p>\n<p>Their most popular products are the footy-themed scissor holders covered in team stickers. They also donate pieces to charity raffles.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s fantastic to support the hospital, while enjoying our very social mornings, with morning tea and lunch,\u201d Ms Kelly said.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Birch said she loves her Tuesdays filled with creativity, special friendships, meaningful conversations, and maybe even a touch of cheeky gossip now and then.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s great therapy for us, and we have a lot of fun.
