Federation University Exercise and Sports Science undergraduates are set to assess spectators at the local FedUni Road National Championships from 12 to 16 January, so you could find out.<\/p>\n
At student-led pop-ups in Ballarat and Buninyong, racegoers will be able to test their fitness and physical abilities, and compare the data to that of elite international cyclists competing throughout the week.<\/p>\n
The activity will include a screening process to prevent injury, before event spectators participate in isometric mid-thigh pull strength and six-second watt-bike power tests.<\/p>\n
Exercise and sports science work integrated learning coordinator Lindy Hall said the athletic test stalls create a practical learning space for students to gain valuable industry experience.<\/p>\n
\u201cStudents will be able to link their university studies to real-life situations, while developing key professional employability attributes… with the bonus of having their lecturers as supervisors there to assist,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Federation University School of Science, Psychology and Sport dean Professor Dara Twomey said the RoadNats are an annual highlight for Ballarat people, and the faculty is proud to not only support the event, but host the time trial at the Mount Helen campus.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe bring a world-class reputation for sport science to our partnership with AusCycling, and look forward to continuing this collaboration for the benefit of students, the sport of cycling and the broader community,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
