For school leavers, the change of preference period is one of the most important times of the year.<\/strong><\/p>\n

IF your priorities have changed and you find yourself drawn to a new career opportunity, change of preference is the time to take that fork in the road and choose a path to a career you know you\u2019ll enjoy for years to come.<\/p>\n

For those who didn\u2019t quite receive the results they were hoping for, change of preference is a chance to re-evaluate, gather your thoughts and find an alternative pathway to your dreams.<\/p>\n

And it\u2019s okay if you don\u2019t quite know what you\u2019re after yet.<\/p>\n

Federation TAFE nursing student Samantha Brown realised when she finished high school that she wasn\u2019t ready to make a long-term career choice.<\/p>\n

She had always been intrigued by nursing but decided to take some time to work as a conveyancer and then in a fast-paced role managing a top hotel in Ballarat.<\/p>\n

With her interest in nursing never waning, Samantha tested the waters through the traineeship model at Federation TAFE.<\/p>\n

She began by enrolling in a certificate III of individual and ageing support to be sure this was the right career path for her, before going on to enrol in a diploma of nursing which included a work placement at Ballarat Health Service where she was able to put her training into practice.<\/p>\n

Her skills shone through, and she was named Trainee of the Year at the Victorian Training Awards earlier this year.<\/p>\n

Samantha was one of 44 finalists in the 67th Victorian Training Awards, which recognises the achievements of apprentices, students, teachers, trainers and employers.<\/p>\n

After completing her traineeship in 2020, Samantha is now working at Ballarat Health Services, where she is applying her knowledge and experience learned during study and her traineeship.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe traineeship was a perfect fit, as I learn best with hands on experience. The opportunity to work within the field whilst studying was a major draw card,\u201d Samantha said.<\/p>\n

Samantha isn\u2019t alone in her experience; when you join Federation University and TAFE, you\u2019ll become part of a learning community with courses grounded in real-world experience, giving you the skills you need to excel in the workforce.<\/p>\n
