{"id":80009,"date":"2022-01-16T04:57:43","date_gmt":"2022-01-15T17:57:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=80009"},"modified":"2022-01-11T15:38:20","modified_gmt":"2022-01-11T04:38:20","slug":"charlie-wilde-bmi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/news\/charlie-wilde-bmi\/","title":{"rendered":"Charlie\u2019s concert Wilde and raw"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Ballaarat Mechanics\u2019 Institute will host indie-folk musician Charlie Wilde as he marks the release of his latest EP <em>Allihies<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Performing tracks from his fourth release, Wilde will be backed by special guest support act Benjamin Trillado at the gig on Saturday, 22 January from 7.30pm.<\/p>\n<p>Wilde said there are some themes that \u201cpermeate\u201d throughout <em>Allihies<\/em>, which he will perform on the BMI\u2019s historic piano in the \u201cstunning and intimate\u201d Humffray Room.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have this bookend of the <em>Allihies <\/em>titular track &#8211; two songs almost butting heads in one, erratic at times, sincere, multi-faceted, and raw &#8211; and the bookend of<em> Buckleys Rd,<\/em>\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The EP also explores masculinity, Wilde\u2019s anxiety, the burden of separation, familial heritage, and his relationship with his grandfather.<\/p>\n<p>He said the latter theme is its own \u201cvessel\u201d to unpack some of these other issues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMusically, there\u2019s \u2018spaghetti western\u2019 elements. I particularly loved building those sounds, as my grandfather loved old Clint Eastwood films with the rousing Ennio Morricone tracks,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>As well as these bold moments, Wilde said through the EP, every now and then, there\u2019s a \u201crawness and beauty\u201d that he expects the audience will enjoy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith the jazz trio, and the string quartet, we\u2019ve created Charlie Wilde tracks with a cinematic feel,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The performance will be part of a regional tour, but Wilde said he\u2019s most excited about the BMI concert.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m planning to change a few songs to accommodate that historic piano, so I\u2019ll be spending more time on there than I would for a traditional set.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBen Trillado is an incredible support act. I am a big fan of his absolutely beautiful music,\u201d Wilde said.<\/p>\n<p>Wilde was a violinist for 10 years, before he developed his contemporary song writing skills more deeply on the piano, and studied music at university.
