RECOGNISED for her work in the community, Bridie Orr from Inverleigh is one of the five nominees for the 2021 Golden Plains Shire Young Citizen of the Year.<\/p>\n
About to commence year 11 at Bannockburn P-12 College, 16-year-old Bridie is currently working with the Shire on the Golden Plains Shire Youth Hub project and said she is really happy with the nomination.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve been working in the community really hard last year with the Youth Hub that\u2019s being built, I\u2019m really happy it\u2019s been acknowledged and it\u2019s just nice to be nominated for it,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cI started working on the Youth Hub in 2019 when I went to a leadership camp and this was a little project for me and three other kids.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe other three kids kind of dropped off and I was offered to help out with seeing the youth side of the project. Having someone that\u2019s part of the youth pitch in for something for the youth is good.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ground was broken on the Youth Hum mid-last year, with funding coming from a range of source.<\/p>\n
The facility will seek offer a range of services for young people across the Shire, providing a safe and inclusive environment.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s important because there\u2019s not many things for youth to do in the Golden Plains Shire; it\u2019s really good to have another thing where people like me can hang out and have fun,\u201d Bridie said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey\u2019ll run activities, have people there to support you, and help for mental health.\u201d<\/p>\n
Other nominees for the 2021 Golden Plains Shire Young Citizen of the Year include Georgia Kitchen and Tarni Crocker of Teesdale, Rachel Kaiser of Maude, and Alisha Nurnaitis of Bannockburn.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
