WOMEN and girls are invited to get into the swing of golf from next month at the Bannockburn Golf Club.<\/p>\n
The Club is running a five-week Get into Golf program for beginners, which will run each Tuesday morning, 10am to 11am, from 22 February until 22 March.<\/p>\n
BCG golf development sub-committee member Pam Graham said participating women and girls will learn all the basics of the sport so they can comfortably play a game.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey will become familiar with the feel of the club and how to hold it, and then different aspects of golf, driving, putting, and chipping,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe driving force behind this program is to get women and girls into the sport. We need more ladies at the club, so if we gain more lady members after the program, that will be a bonus.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is a fun, accessible and social sport you can play well into your 80s and 90s. We\u2019re cost-effective for ladies who are working and raising a family.\u201d<\/p>\n
Currently the Club has a sand-scrape course with fairways \u201ccomparative to bigger courses\u201d in the Geelong region.<\/p>\n
But with the support of an anonymous benefactor, the Club is changing the full 18 holes to greens – nine holes at a time – and this is expected to be completed by 2024.<\/p>\n
\u201cCome along and be a part of history as we convert to greens. It\u2019s a pretty little course and we\u2019re quite proud of it,\u201d Ms Graham said.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur Club is like a big family really, and the course is a hidden gem in the country. So many people drive past and don\u2019t realise it\u2019s there.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe hope with the greens coming that new members will stay.\u201d<\/p>\n
