REGISTRATION has opened for Golden Plains Shire\u2019s new State Government backed initiative, Move Your Way, which aims to empower teenage girls through social connection and physical activity.<\/p>\n
The event will support girls aged 12-15 and will comprise of a free eight-week program to start on Tuesday, 8 February.<\/p>\n
Mayor Cr Gavin Gamble said that the Shire is excited for what the program holds for young girls.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith innovative activities guided by input from young girls across the Shire, Move Your Way aims to remove the barriers to physical activity they face, creating a safe and inclusive space for all girls to participate,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The program will consist of a range of non-structured activities including yoga, roller skating, circus skills, Ninja Warrior-style obstacles and games, as well as non-competitive football and netball.<\/p>\n
The activities will be provided by members of Netball Victoria and AFL-accredited coaches with a view to accommodate for any and all skill levels.<\/p>\n
Participants can expect healthy snacks and goody bags to be available at each session and a series of prizes will be up for grabs.<\/p>\n
Move Your Way was developed through a feedback survey that took place in November, and is being funded through a $9,750 grant from VicHealth\u2019s Reimagining Health Grants.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvidence shows that 92 per cent of Australian teens do not meet the Physical Activity Guidelines of 60 minutes a day, and females are disproportionally represented in this data,\u201d Cr Gamble said.<\/p>\n
\u201cMove Your Way provides a variety of activities to suit all skill levels, making it easier for girls to participate in activities they may not usually have access to or may have previously been uncomfortable trying out.\u201d<\/p>\n
