BALLARAT\u2019S Society of Artists are preparing for a busy year in anticipation of their fortieth anniversary.<\/p>\n
Formed in 1982, the non-profit aims to promote art within the community, providing a space for its members to interact and arranging their work for personal sale at exhibitions.<\/p>\n
With a current membership of over 60, president John Canham said the group is supportive and non-exclusionary, with no degree of skill or talent required to join.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnybody that\u2019s interested in art and is trying to move forward or is already accomplished, they\u2019re all welcome,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
While primarily an outlet to socialise and display their work, the group facilitates painting sessions over the winter and offers a small library of books available to borrow.<\/p>\n
They also organise the occasional workshop and hold monthly art competitions based on a particular theme.<\/p>\n
Upcoming events for the Society include an annual exhibition at the Robert Clark Centre in the Botanical Gardens over Easter, which Mr Canham said is a highlight of the schedule.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s probably our biggest exhibition,\u201d he said. \u201cWe had about 1500 people through there last year.\u201d<\/p>\n
When not holding meetings, much of the group\u2019s activity consists of a weekly newsletter and dedicated discussions.<\/p>\n
There\u2019s also weekly exhibition at Lake Wendouree, and an event as part of the Begonia Festival, as well as children\u2019s art activities.<\/p>\n
Mr Canham said the group is still looking to celebrate its 40th anniversary despite potential COVID interruptions.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s nothing that would wind us down,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The group\u2019s first monthly meeting of 2022 took place last Saturday and members are planning next exhibit at the Mercure Hotel on Monday, 14 February<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
