{"id":80488,"date":"2022-02-03T04:43:02","date_gmt":"2022-02-02T17:43:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/?p=80488"},"modified":"2022-02-06T10:21:28","modified_gmt":"2022-02-05T23:21:28","slug":"mixed-results-for-sebas-sides","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/goldenplains\/sport\/mixed-results-for-sebas-sides\/","title":{"rendered":"Mixed results for Sebas sides"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SEBASTOPOL&#8217;S Division three squad got back into the winners circle with all rinks up in their home game against Webbcona in in Ballarat-Highlands Bowls Region play on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Leading the way was Col Neve&#8217;s rink which had a 14-shot gain followed by David Pratt with 13 up.<\/p>\n<p>For Webbcona Shayne Hodges&#8217; side came very close but ended up losing by a single shot while Charles Darken&#8217;s rink went down by two shots.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Saturday&#8217;s game was a team effort with all players focused on the task at hand and we all chipped in to secure our win,\u201d said Jeff Scully, Sebastopol&#8217;s team manager.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe greens played well and the week&#8217;s rains did slow the pace of the green a bit which helped bowlers from both teams draw more bowls in head.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone in the team has the attitude that we just want to play better bowls within ourselves&#8221;.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_82215\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-82215\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-82215\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2022\/02\/1W5A2159-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-82215\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Sebastopol\u2019 George Dailly.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Although the Sebastopol Division 3 side enjoyed the strong win, with only five games left to play in the season the squad is three games and 28 points behind fourth placed Midlands and in a difficult spot to challenge for a March finals berth.<\/p>\n<p>Learmonth are in fifth position and nine shots behind Midlands and with a good percentage are more likely to push for the post-season, but their run home will determine their fate.<\/p>\n<p>Down a grade, Webbcona&#8217;s Division 4 team turned the tables against Sebastopol &#8211; this tiem out a Wendouree &#8211; claiming their second win for the season, but competition for a position to play finals is a tight race between Midlands, Buninyong and the two Sebastopol sides.<\/p>\n<p>The Division 2 match between Buninyong and Sebastopol had to be shifted to the Sebastopol green due to the week&#8217;s rains at Buninyong, with Sebas ultimately securing a win and holding seventh position on the ladder, well outside the top four.<\/p>\n<p>The Sebastopol Premier division side playing on their home green suffered their first loss for the season against Buninyong, due in part to Brian Wilcock&#8217;s decisive 23 shot win.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Clunes\u2019 Division 6 side travelled to Sebastopol and had another win and remained on top of the ladder with only the one loss.<\/p>\n<p>Sebastopol&#8217;s Bill Loader and Neville Curtis managed to have narrow wins on their rinks to give the home side 4 points for the match with the squad positioned seventh the ladder.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_82216\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-82216\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-82216\" src=\"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/ballarat\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/9\/2022\/02\/1W5A2127-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-82216\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Derek Wren from Sebastopol.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Likewise the Sebas Division 7 side are seventh position after Saturday&#8217;s loss to Ballarat East.<\/p>\n<p>On the winning side was Sebastopol&#8217;s Division 8 team that travelled to Beaufort for victory and continued to enjoy third position on the competition ladder.<\/p>\n<p>On the home front Sebastopol&#8217;s Great Southern Classic Men\u2019s Fours is set for Sunday, 20 February with a 9.15am roll up. There\u2019s a $3000 prize purse and entry is $30 player.<\/p>\n<p>Arrangements are also being made for the club for the Ladies Triples Tournament set for Thursday, 3 March for a 10.30am start.
