A NEW York-based all-girl Led Zeppelin cover band are bringing their show to Ballarat for the first time as part of their upcoming Australian tour.<\/p>\n
Having first visited the country in 2019, Lez Zeppelin will play the English rock legends\u2019 iconic songs at Civic Hall on Friday, 29 April.<\/p>\n
Founder and guitarist Steph Paynes said the group is excited for the opportunity to still be playing in new and exciting locations since their formation in 2004.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe love anything that\u2019s different and off the beaten path,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs great as it is to see major cities, it\u2019s always a lovely surprise and experience to venture somewhere we\u2019ve never been.\u201d<\/p>\n
The tour will consist of over six shows throughout April, with a special string orchestration show in Melbourne the day before the Civic Hall concert.<\/p>\n
The band has been praised by original Led Zeppelin founder and guitarist, Jimmy Page, but at almost 20 years since its founding, Paynes said their success did not happen overnight.<\/p>\n
\u201cNobody had much faith that four girls could come out and play this music at all,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe whole success of the band was founded on scepticism, because we would play and people would be like oh wow, they\u2019re really pulling it off.\u201d<\/p>\n
Paynes said the group aims to capture the spirit of the music rather than copy the exact technique and stage moves of the original members.<\/p>\n
\u201cI think audiences are surprised, and continue to be surprised by just the power and virtuosity of the band,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn my opinion, we play the music better than pretty much anyone else with the exception of the guys themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n
