THE Shire\u2019s south will play host to at least two hundred professional disc golf athletes from across the country this weekend.<\/p>\n
The Recreation Activity Design Australian Disc Golf Championships will take flight at Inverleigh Golf & Disc Golf Club from this Friday, 25 to Sunday, 27 February.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s the first time the national champs have taken place at the permanent par-64 18-hole course, with competitors set to play for cash and prizes, and the Championship honour, over three rounds.<\/p>\n
Patty Robinson and Andrew Ferguson are driving the action as tournament co-directors, also facilitating smaller distance throwing and putting, and mini disc golf comps throughout the event.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are very excited to be hosting the biggest disc golf event in the country\u2019s history,\u201d Mr Robinson said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe newly installed Inverleigh disc golf course is a permanent facility which is open to the public to play.<\/p>\n
\u201cSince the course was installed this year, membership at the club has doubled, and disc golf green fees have added an additional revenue stream for the Club.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Ferguson, also the course\u2019s designer, said Inverleigh is an \u201cideal\u201d location for all the action to take place, and it will truly test the pro players.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe technical wooded holes, mixed with the long open fairways, provides competitors with a real challenge,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt’s one of the toughest courses in Australia.”<\/p>\n
Spectators can enter for free, with best action on the Sunday. A free clinic will run at 11am, with the sports basics taught by Australia\u2019s best players.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
